چکیده

We investigated the performance of a new collection tube for the preparation of EDTA anti-coagulated plasma for viral load testing. HCV RNA copy numbers were measured with a commercially available assay (the Amplicor HCV MonitorTM test kit). Blood specimens were collected from HCV-seropositive individuals in the VACUTAINER Brand Plasma Preparation TubeTM and a control, non-gel separator VACUTAINER Brand PLUS K2EDTA tube. We found that viral loads from plasma prepared in the PPTTM tube were equivalent to those in plasmas prepared in conventional EDTA tubes. Additionally, in contrast to the EDTA tube, the PPTTM tube provided a closed system for the collection, preparation and transport of a plasma specimen with no plasma transfer or re-labeling steps. __________________________________________________________

Evaluation of effect of specimen-handling parameters for plasma preparation tubes on viral load measurements obtained by using the Abbott RealTime HIV-1 load assay.

HIV-1 viral load testing is essential to the management of HIV-1-infected patients, and proper specimen handling ensures accurate viral load (VL) results. This study was performed to (i) evaluate the effect of freezing plasma in situ in BD Vacutainer plasma preparation tubes (PPT) on the accuracy of HIV-1 viral load results using the Abbott RealTime HIV-1 assay and (ii) evaluate the effect of w...

Stability of plasma human immunodeficiency virus load in VACUTAINER PPT plasma preparation tubes during overnight shipment.

VACUTAINER PPT plasma preparation tubes were evaluated to determine the effects of various handling and shipping conditions on plasma human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) load determinations. Plasmas obtained from PPT tubes stored and shipped under nine different conditions were compared to conventional EDTA tube plasmas stored at -70 degrees C within 2 h after phlebotomy. Compared to viral loads...

O-2: Prospective Evaluation of the ThreatRelated to the Use of Seminal Fractions fromHepatitis C Virus-Infected Men in Assisted ReproductiveTechniques

Background: The risk of hepatitis C virus (HCV) transmission during assisted reproductive techniques (ARTs) is still disputed and no report concerning its prospective evaluation is available. The aim of this 4-year follow-up multicentre study that enrolled 86 HCV-serodiscordant couples was to determine whether a sperm-processing method was able to reduce levels of HCV in semen and the risk of H...
